Catonsville, MD’s Premier Outdoor Music Venue
Lurman Woodland Theatre is a beautiful outdoor theatre located in Catonsville, MD, just south of Baltimore. Free music concerts are hosted every June, July & August for the public. Families bring picnics and chairs along with their dancing shoes to enjoy a diverse selection of music, R&B, rock, oldies and more.
They are a non-profit, and they fund the theatre upkeep through sponsors as well as as a pass-the-donation-bucket during intermission.
Lurman came to me with a desperate need for a website facelift!
Their site just wasn’t cutting it any longer… it was hard to find information, especially the all-important weekly concert schedule. The design was, er, old-fashioned and lackluster. It did not highlight the fun vibe of the area at all.
Their current site was not responsive on mobile devices. When concerts were cancelled because of weather, there was a phone number to call which would get jammed… there was no other system to let the public know not to come.
I was thrilled when they awarded me the contract!! Lurman is 2 miles from my home, and I’ve attended their concerts for many years.
Their new website is beautifully responsive on mobile devices, with an easy-to-use interface for their volunteers to make changes themselves. It is photo-heavy so that the public can see the beauty of the area and are enticed to visit. All text was examined and rewritten, and new, fresh photos were carefully selected for their visual appeal.
I very carefully go through every little detail to make sure that I am repeating the brand messaging – Lurman is a fun, vibrant outdoor music theatre for the whole family.
A new page, Plan Your Visit, was created to give visitors the details needed on what to bring. An important part was letting them know that there are areas for children to play as well as that picnic tables are available.
A big improvement was on the Directions & Parking page. It was heavily edited to make it effortless to find the theatre (and parking) through written directions as well as with a detailed, printable map of the area.
I’m pleased as punch at how this site turned out. The client was AMAZING! Cynthia is THE most organized person that I’ve ever met and an incredible writer. Mike, a graphic designer, contributed so much to the design and intuitiveness of the site.
